Visualizing music data using NodeBox

Inspired by the work of Nicholas Rougeux, I wanted to try my hand at recreating his project Off the Staff – an experiment in visualizing notes from music scores. His work seemed to be focused on classical music, but I wanted to see what it would look like to use more modern music. In his work, he used various music data points to plot data into NodeBox to create really stunning visualization of music. In this visualization, a single dot represents a note in the score, where the distance of that dot from the center is calculated by the pitch, the size of the dot is calculated using the duration of the note, and the color of the dot represents a different instrument or voice. The entire visualization forms a circle starting and ending at the 12 o’clock position.
